  • Description

    Chatakpur is a small village residing at the heart of “Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary”. The Senchal wildlife sanctuary is at an area of about 40 sq km at the south eastern part of Mirik and Jorebunglow. It is one of the oldest wildlife sanctuaries in India. From Darjeeling town it is at distance of about 28 km. Chatakpur has become very popular among tourists as it offers panoramic view of snow clad mountains, himalayan range and lush green forest of alpine trees. On a clear day tourists can enjoy a divine view of Sunrise and Mt. Kanchenjunga from Chatakpur view point. If you are looking for a laid back relaxing getaway, this is the perfect place. Live the days of your vacation in the lap of the nature with the beautiful calm, yet mysterious forest of Senchal. Chatakpur is also favorite spot for mountain biking lovers, chatakpur has officially become the first mountain bike park of India from year 2017 and riders from around world visit chatakpur to experience the ride.

  • Places to Visit

    Tourists can climb rock faces or avail the trekking routes both downhill and uphill that lead to various destinations. They can also climb the watchtower to view the sunrise or take a panoramic view of Sandakphu. You can also spend time at the Pokhri (Pond). Bird lovers can spend their time watching birds and tourists can even enjoy the breathtaking view of Mt. Kanchenjunga from nearby or enjoy the folk dances performed by local people. Pick your vegetables from garden fresh organic orchards, feed and even milk the cattle. You can also enjoy the company of story tellers. A generation still exists to share the experience of myth, culture and traditional values.

  • Accommodation

    Homestays are available run by local villagers, advance booking of homestay is recommended. Eco huts is also available which is run by forest department.

  • How to Reach

    Chatakpur is 6980 km away from its nearest airport of Bagdogra and 65 km away from the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) train station. This wonderland is 26 km away from Darjeeling city and 17 km from Ghoom, nearest popular town. The only way to reach this village is by adventurous roads. There are 3 routes to reach here:

    • Kurseong-Dilaram-Bagora via the Hill Cart or Rohini Road.
    • Rambi-Mongpu-Jorebunglow and finally Sonada which is 7 km away from Chatakpur.
    • Darjeeling-Sonada (1-hour drive) and then to Chatakpur.
