Samanden , the lost valley is one of the famous off beat destination in Darjeeling . Located at an altitude of 7545 feet, it is the remotest village present in close proximity to the Singalila National Park in the North and Barsey Wildlife Sanctuary in the East. Samanden is bestowed with rich biodiversity and provides a wide range of ecosystem services of local and regional significance. Every year a large number of trekkers arrive in Samanden as the village lies in the route of famous singalila ridge trek. There is a very interesting story related to this valley, according to the legend, it is said that many years ago a Lepcha Hunter fought with a legendary Himalayan “Yeti” for the control over the hunting ground but due to the equal strength on both the side it ended in a tie, so they came up to a resolution and made a treaty, in the quiet woods, a huge stone was erected as a symbol of friendship between the Lepcha hunter and the Yeti.
